Year 11 winner in Young Writers' Competition

Lucy-Mai A in Year 11 (pictured above) has been declared a winner in the 2023 Wimbledon BookFest Young Writers’ Competition.

She won the KS4 Story category and will receive a certificate and anthology containing her published poem during a prize-giving event in October. Prizes will be presented by award-winning George the Poet, a British spoken-word  artist, rapper and podcast host with an interest in social and political issues.

Freya P in Year 8 was declared a 'strong' Runner-Up in the KS3 Poem category and is also invited to the prize-giving.

Highly Commended awards go to Athina V in Year 8, Ananya G in Year 9, Maddy G in Year 11, and Anna B and Evie J in Year 12. They will all receive certificates and copies of the anthology containing their published poems.

The organisers said this year’s competition, on the theme of 'home',  received an 'amazing' number of entries from over 70 London and Surrey schools.

Earlier this year, Alexandra EK in Year 7 and Beatrice C in Year 9 were selected for publication in the separate Young Writers' anthologies 'UK Voices' and 'Inspiring Words', respectively.
