Our Poetry Festival has long been a highlight of the Putney calendar, and this year’s event, judged by poet Ella Frears, was no exception. Students showcased their creativity with work which was honest, funny, emotional and innovative... not least in our first-ever AI category.
Poems spanned a wide range of styles and subjects, including Frida Kahlo, Mount Mayon and Elizabeth Siddal. Leah DT's winning entry and accompanying essay for the AI category was described by the judge as "truly fascinating".
The winners for each year group were Hannah L (Year 7), Bella T (Year 8), Freya P (Year 9), Jessica G (Year 10), Olivia L (Year 11) and Anna B (Sixth Form). Sofia R took the performance prize for Years 7 to 10, and Katie S did the same for Year 11 to Sixth Form.
The day after the event, headteacher Ms Sharrock (pictured) said: "I think there can be few schools that indulge their love of poetry so beautifully as Putney. Last night's Poetry Festival showcased some fantastic and thought-provoking work from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form. I know that our audience, and guest judge, Ella Frears, were amused and moved in equal measure. Thank you to the English Department and to all those who took part."
