Blackout poetry in Creative Writing Society

by Clemmie P, Year 12

In Creative Writing Society, we’ve been busy exploring creative ways to write poetry using magazines! We’ve experimented with blackout poetry, creating abstract pieces from a collage of different news articles – stringing together interesting words and phrases to create some insightful (and some rather amusing!) short poems.

On top of this, we did some preparation for the poetry festival, finding different ways to generate imaginative ideas from writing prompts, and how to find inspiration in the most unlikely places. We have also dabbled in the art of ‘The Flow of Consciousness’, translating the continuous stream of ideas in our minds on to the page, and from it, extracting fresh and original ideas.

If you are in Years 7 or 8 and love writing, or find yourself fizzing with ideas, stories or even rogue trains of thought, then come along Monday Lunch 2 in Room 3! (There could be snacks...)
